How does this work? Is it safe?

You might have looked over the information about Unalome Therapy Dunedin’s services and felt it is curious or hopeful but when you are working with a long term challenge you are right to be caucious and diserning about what you try and who you trust to work with you.

Every touch in both modalities is incredibly gentle, there is absolutely no physical realignments made to your body. Your body makes all of the changes in its own way in a similar way to how these developed in the first place. It is completely natural and driven by your own body. Spinal Flow has absolutely no contraindications. Both of the modalities and all of the work of Unalome Therapies Dunedin is registered and insured by ICCT Complimentary Therapies an international regulation body of holistic healing. The Health and Disabilities Act provides a code for working in health and wellbeing in Aotearoa that applies to all of work together and the expectations in this code are deeply important to the effectiveness of this work.

This is because the body talks with emotions, movement, breath, temperature and sensations. The body sends thoughts to the mind too; but these often do not make sense to us. If your physical injury has coincided with new feelings and thoughts you might recognise this but sometimes these patterns established so long ago we did not make this observation. Overtime, these patterns start to feel like they are just part of our personality rather than signals from our body that one of our vertebrae is a tiny bit misaligned.

This journey will attempt to take you- into the unknown. Unknown by the mind but your body has been quietly recording every experience you have ever had and it may have a great many things to say once you learn it’s language.

The physical body has a language, it is not structured in the ways that our spoken ‘mind’ language works. Our injury is in an area of our body but the whole body is connected to that injury. Our nervous system runs through everything, it is the master controller, the brain, the spinal column and out to every cell and operation that has ever taken place. Emotions, old and unprocessed, natural cycles that did not get to run to completion have all gathered and adjusted how communication works around your body as an active system.

It may be that you have an injury that is new, perhaps, it reminds the body of something that is old and things have got a bit complicated in the filing system. Something old that is unresolved that could be completed and may free up some room to help clear a more recent injury. We just need to start talking to the whole system about healing and releasing, rather than letting some of these stuck patterns keep looping around.

Our system works in cycles and loops, information moves between the brain and the body, helping the system see some of the patterns it doesn’t need to run anymore creates change. Change is good in healing physical injuries; it might take the system several times to clear outdated loops but the body system is incredibly wise and creative, it will find a way.

These stuck patterns can be particularly true for people with mystery pain and illnesses; we always need to know you have investigated symptoms with an appropriate medical professional, this is really important for us to make good decisions about what treatments will support you the most. Pain in particular is a feedback loop between the brain and body, pain can be addressed through this work.

The body can unravel its own blockages without us having a diagnosis. We are not focusing on the area of pain, in fact it may not even be touched. We are looking at, listening to and working with the body as a whole.

Your body may be different, perhaps permanently changed from an injury and function is affected. Your body knows, it will find amazing ways to support you. It is infinitely creative. It is this creativity that has stored and formed these blockages. This is a natural function of our body; however, we are then meant to release and resolve these blockages when our body enters deep rest states and this is where things have become complicated, during high stress and in unhealthy environments. Our bodies are made to withstand stress and survive extreme situations- however, our cultural understandings and habits (like denying the expression of certain emotions or natural releasing such as crying); the lack of balance in our lifestyles has lead to these releasing and healing protocols being overridden and switched off. If it isn’t safe to release the system will hold; survival is prioritised over growth and thriving by the body. This makes sense, a practical decision by the the mind/body system as you can’t grow and thrive if you have not survived.

For the body and the way the body understands and processes injuries, a lot of experiences we see in our mind as being small or unimportant may have been huge. Things we can think we “got over” as far as stress and physical traumas, like being rear-ended in a car years ago can remain unresolved. This is especially true in infancy and childhood, even in utero; first experiences can lay down some foundational patterns in the body. Highly emotive and traumatising experiences also create strong impressions on the system for the same reason, they were a big deal to the body. The system has understood that experience to be a terrible threat and never wants it repeated; so it works hard to protect and prevent. Caring for the whole of you is your nervous systems entire reason for being. This is why a sense of safety is so important for healing, this is why all release has to finally be allowed so all those natural systems can run as they were meant to.

Chronic conditions build from similar pictures, this makes it difficult for us to understand from a mental perspective, living our lives in linear time. Our body’s system has lived an experience of ongoing stress and difficulties and has been trying to cope in different ways, which we eventually experience as symptoms. When our system is very stuck it may choose to shut aspects of the system down. This can be contributing to illnesses which involve fatigue.

Our bodies are completely unique; there are many things we obviously all have in common but we are very nuanced. Perhaps being nuanced and unique is our most common experience as humans. Not only do we all look different as humans, our bodies have their own little ways too; direct from our ancestors and shaped by the cultures and environments they and we have experienced. We can have areas of our physical and functional body that need support or do not function in optimal ways or at all. We also have areas of strengths. Our body as a whole has wisdom around how it makes this work.

Unalome Therapies Dunedin can not promise or even know what it is that your body wants to heal or how it will do it; that is unique as you. What can be promised is that every single body is working so hard to look after the whole of who each of us are as best that it can. Nothing loves you more than your body; it was designed uniquely for you to have the journey of your life. Learning to understand how it loves and what it might have stored to share with you and how it works best will be a journey worth taking. This is not about curing, it is a different mindset which reframes your relationship to your body and the way you understand it’s language and messages.

The connection and reverence you have with your body is worth developing and investing in more than trying different things that have helped other people with similar symptoms to you. Your body knows more about you than anything other source and your personal map to wholeness.
