Unalome Therapy began like all great things, from the complete destruction of something else. Who Disa is and how she works are very interconnected.
Healing from a pelvic injury and PTSD Disa committed to using gentle holistic methods which she already lived a rich life within. Creating learning journeys which respected children’s unique and diverse pathways was central to Disa’s work in education research and practice. Holism is a model that interconnects all areas of life and Disa has applied this throughout her home environment in a large permaculture garden which Unalome Therapies Dunedin sits on the edge of.

A holistic worldview informs all of the support and care Disa will share with you on your healing journey. Holistic worldviews see that working with injuries is more than reclaiming capacity, there are deep truths and wonderful new outcomes that can be uncovered when we work with the body and our wider system to heal. We are not trying to “get rid” of what is wrong, we are working to understand what our challenges can teach us and to use the agency we do have over our experience of these injuries and issues, even when aspects of our experience are not within our control.
We choose to let the injury benefit and change us, which does not take away from the fact that it is also difficult; grief is a central part of healing, we have to let it happen. We may use the injury to revisit a number of things in our lives that we now see do not serve us and need to change. Often when we want to understand something holistically we start with a question about what don’t we know, understand and see about this situation. That is where this journey will attempt to take you- into the unknown. Unknown by the mind but your body has been quietly recording every experience you have ever had and it may have a great many things to say once you learn it’s language.
This is not about bypassing how we may have been injured but recognising that wherever we have agency in our situation is where we can centre our power. Being hurt and being vulnerable is part of a full human experience; healing holistically is about doing this with great skill and the best overall outcomes possible for the situation. Being honest, real and full of self compassion is not only more likely to create good outcomes, it is also logical. Science supports this approach; your mental and emotional states massively impact your recovery pathway and life outcomes.
There are many amazing options to work with specific injuries and making informed choices to heal in many other ways will in no way be impacted by holding a holistic view. Disa can help you hold all treatment experiences within the one journey being the constant touchstone over the ups and downs and keep your nervous system feeling cared for as you receive other treatments; medical and complementary. This is exactly what she wanted for herself. Disa found this is lots of different places and took responsibility for her own nervous system; her journey was her own and at times a bit isolating and lonely, especially in quick appointments which only addressed what needed to happen to the physical body. A journey shared is so much richer, for people who would like a space to be more than a body on a table- Unalome Therapy Dunedin is for you.
What we know is that when people get these missing holistic experiences, alongside the medical model, amazing outcomes can occur because sometimes an issue is compounded by something unrelated in the wider system and that is what has happened for previous clients.
Disa has a family, creates art and is an amateur landscape designer and permaculture gardener.
Unalome Therapy is where all those things have happily come together to share with likeminded travellers. Disa has worked holistically in Education for over 20 years and holds a number of degrees in areas related to human development, learning and psychology. All of her prior learning and interests intersect in this work: arts, science, health, education, history, ancestral wisdom, mind-body connection, holism, nature-including humans, miracles and magic.
In 2024, she trained as a Spinal Flow practitioner; this amazing modality invited her physical body to final heal an ongoing pelvis injury which has completely resolved without requiring further treatment.
Use Spinal Flow to feel into your body and access the complete aliveness it was built to hold!
In 2025, Inherited Release Method (IRM) Disa came home to this rich modality which carried all of the elements of holistic healing which were found to be so powerful and effective on her own journey.
IRM is like healing with all of humanity in the womb of creation!
The Unalome Therapy healing space stands for radical empowerment; it is a space where full self expression is normalised and this truth is the vehicle for our healing work. As the journey leader, you the client, your body and system will direct every session and any boundary or accomodation that you need in any moment is our starting place; your body sets the pace of the sessions.
Depending on your needs and goals we can combine elements of Spinal Flow and IRM or exclusively use one or the other. Both modalities work with the science of the nervous system- your own body’s deep wisdom.
